Vodafone Essar applies for 3G as well as BWA spectrum auctions
Bharti Airtel offers free upgrade to higher speeds for broadband subscribers; also offers 4 mbps for Rs 899 monthly rental
It seems the WiMAX story in India is heading towards end even before a proper beginning. While Qualcomm yesterday announced plans to bid for BWA spectrum and offer TD-LTE based services over the spectrum, Mobile service provider Vodafone Essar too applied to participate in the forthcoming BWA spectrum auctions.
The operator has applied to participate in the 3G spectrum auctions as well.
Bharti Airtel launched a new offer for its broadband subscribers enabling upgrade to higher speeds for free. Under the new scheme subscribers currently opting for services of speeds 64 kbps, 128 kbps and 256 kbps will be upgraded to 512 kbps.
Those subscribing to 512 kbps and 1 mbps plans will be upgraded to 1 mbps and 2 mbps respectively. All these upgrades will be completed by June 2010 said the company.
